Septic Inspection

Septic Inspection

A fully operational septic system is essential for numerous homes situated in rural areas. Nonetheless, homeowners often overlook the septic system until issues arise. When buying a new house, the foremost concern is whether complications with the septic system will emerge post-move-in. Regularly cleaning your septic tank is crucial to prevent the accumulation of toxins and antibacterial substances that can disrupt the vital anaerobic bacteria responsible for waste decomposition.

Important Information About Septic Tanks

Generally, a properly installed and consistently maintained septic tank can function effectively for approximately 25-30 years. Therefore, it is crucial to inquire about the age of the system and the level of past maintenance it has received.

What is a Septic System

Households that are not connected to the municipal sewer have two options: privately-owned sewer laterals that link them to the main municipal sewer line, or private septic systems. It is estimated that around 25 percent of the American population relies on separate septic systems, so finding a perfect home with its own wastewater system is quite common.

Considering the crucial role of a septic system in a household, it is imperative to ascertain its upkeep and identify any repairs that may be needed. At Ronin Home Inspections, our team of certified home inspectors specializes in conducting thorough and non-intrusive inspections of septic tanks and all associated components. This invaluable service will equip you with a comprehensive understanding of any potential obligations regarding your prospective home.

What does a septic inspection do for me?

A septic inspection involves pumping the tank to check for excessive filling and ensure all tank components are intact. If we observe a tank with a significant amount of solids and toilet paper buildup, it indicates the possibility of solids spilling into the drain field. The presence of solids or toilet paper in the field will lead to failure. The frequency of tank pumping should be every 3-5 years, depending on the system's age, size, and number of occupants in the house. It is important to always request septic records. Additionally, we will excavate 2-3 holes in the drain field to assess the presence of standing water or muddy, dirty stone, both of which indicate failure. Evaluating the field is crucial in assessing the system.
